I have decided on the central question of "Does Facebook influence our judgements about people?"

2-20-13

After some consideration, research, and discussion, I found that it is a widely accepted fact that social media does indeed affect our judgments about people and ideas. This led me to narrow my question to ask, "What kinds of judgments do people make based on what they see on Facebook?"

While I was creating my survey, I asked myself the question, "so what?" What if people do make judgments about other people? We do this all the time on our own, so what's the big deal?  That led me to delve even further into the central question creating this question:"How do the judgements we draw from a person's Facebook influence future interactions with that person?"

2-25-13

After a chat with Dr. Collier, I have actually decided to keep both questions for now, and depending on my survey results, chose one or the other. So currently, I have two central questions:

  • What kinds of judgments do people make based on what they see on Facebook?"
  • "Do the judgements we draw from a person's Facebook influence future interactions with that person?"

While both of these questions were answered in my survey. I decided to focus my conclusions mainly on the latter question about how future interactions are impacted.
